World | The first episode of “Backstage, a Conversation with…”, with John Gilhooly is now online

The new podcast series dedicated to classical music and presented by the Centre national de la musique (CNM) “Backstage, a Conversation with…” is officially launched and releases its very first episode.

“Backstage, a Conversation with…”, the new weekly podcast from the Bureau Export | CNM, presents the world of classical music from a new perspective through interviews with personalities of this field. More details can be found in our article on this subject.

For this very first episode, Françoise Clerc, Manager of Classical and Jazz at the CNM, interviewed the artistic director of the Wigmore Hall in London, John Gilhooly.

John Gilhooly became Director of Wigmore Hall in 2005, making him the youngest director of one of the world’s great concert halls. As Director of Wigmore Hall, he offers the world’s most extensive chamber music programming. He is now President of the Royal Philharmonic Society, one of the oldest music societies in the world, and is the current President of BBC Cardiff Singerof the World. In the course of his career he has been honoured by heads of state and academic institutions on several occasions.

In 2013 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and in 2015 he was made a Knight of the Order of the White Rose of Finland by the President of Finland. John has also been awarded the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art and the Order of the Star of Italy. In 2016, he was awarded the German Order of Merit, the highest German civil distinction. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music (2006), an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Music (2012), an Honorary Fellow of the Guildhall School (2015) and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Irish Academy of Music (2016). He is the patron of Leeds Lieder, Irish Heritage, the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust, the Wimbledon Music Festival and the Corpus Christi Maiden Lane renovation project. John was awarded the Heidelberger Frühling Music Prize in 2019 and the Musicians’ Company’s Cobbett Medal for chamber music.
