Canada | Erwan Keravec launches his Canadian tour
Erwan Keravec has been shining on contemporary and improvised music scene for years. He will bring the sound of his Scottish bagpipe to Canada next September.
Erwan Keravec (Buda Musique / Compagnie Offshore) discovered Scottish bagpipe thanks to the instrument maker Jorj Botuha. The young Breton artist began his career in the traditionnal band Bagad Roñsed Mor and in partnership with his brother Guénolé Keravec, who played the bombard.
Since 1996, Erwan Keravec has been exploring free jazz and improvised music. Then since 2007 he has been willing to explore the possibilities of playing the bagpipe breaking away from tradition. He composed and improvised on his own, as well as with his brother or with the Basque singer Beñat Achiary for the project Urban Pipes I in 2007 and Urban Pipes II in 2011. In addition, in order to push his research even further with the program Nu Piping, he ordered pieces for solo bagpipes from composers who knew nothing about this traditional instrument.
Over the years, Erwan Keravec has also developed several mixed artistic projects related to choir and dance, for example, Breathisdancing in collaboration with dancer and choreographer Alban Richard in 2017 and Extended VOX with Les Cris de Paris in 2019. In September 2019, he will fly to the other side of the Atlantic to present various projects to the Canadian public.
