World | L’Impératrice debuts its world tour with success
L’Impératrice: from an experimental project to the “new synth-pop sensation” (Flaunt)
L’Impératrice is first born as an experimental projet of Charles Boisseguin, then a music critic. Back in 2012, he started to compose and sample to understand and judge music better. He is later joined by 4 partners: Hagni Gnow (keyboard), David Gaugué (bass), Achille Trocellier (guitar) and Tom Daveau (drums). The band released to instrumental EPs: L’Impératrice (2012) and Sonate Pacifique (2015). In 2015, the project shifted to a pop-ier universe when singer Flore Benguigui joined the band.
The band is accompanied by the independent label microqlima and released its debut album Matahari in March 2018, reedited in the following year and distributed worldwide by Idol. With a growing reputation in France and in Europe, L’Impératrice is now about out to conquer the world. At the end of April, the French band launched a 17-concert tour passing by Mexico, Belgium, Britain, the USA and Germany. French Live agency The Talent Boutique is in charge of the production of the concerts.
A remarkable start in Mexico
L’Impératrice received a warm welcome for its debut concerts in Mexico: their Mexican fans were waiting for them at the airport, and the band played in front of 1800 people in a concert hall in Mexico City. It was also one of the most expected acts performing at the Akamba Festival in Guadalajara.
Their concert at Auditorio Blackberry in Mexico City was announced by various media. The musical webzine Freim mentions it as one of the must-see events of the year (es uno de los shows imperdibles del año). After the concert, the magazine reviewed the band’s performance, describing it as “magic and sensual” (Entre sensualidad y magia, asi fue el show de L’Impératrice).
During its presence in Mexico, the band gave a dozen interviews to Mexican media including the daily El Informador. Others are coming soon in Cream, Warp, RMX, Reforma, Rolling Stone, Vibras, Rutas Alternas, Konbini…
Back to the UK, four months after their debut concert
Last January, L’Impératrice made its first appearance in London at Village Underground, performing in a full-venue of 700-people capacity.
On May 2, their second sold-out concert brought together 1600 people at Heaven Club.
During their stay, the band met the musical magazine Mixmag, who dedicated the band a full page in its physical May edition and a feature article in its digital edition.
The band was also mentionned in specialised magazines The Arts Desk and Electronic Sounds, as well as on BBC6 Music.
