World | Ensemble TM+ going on a road of collaborations from Bangladesh to Los Angeles
The project of Ensemble TM+ “Trans-Portées” was touring in March in Bangladesh. The tour caught the attention of local media. Up next: the ensemble will attend two festivals dedicated to creation in Barcelona and Los Angeles.
Composed of 21 eminent musicians, Ensemble TM+ has been working for 32 years to develop a thorough and demanding approach to interprete works of the 20th century and today. It is a modern musical formation that seeks to connect the past and the present. The ensemble is also involved in all forms of expression and creation, collaborating regularly with movie directors, choreographers and visual artists on multidisciplinary projects.
A critically acclaimed tour in Bangladesh
The project “Trans-Portées” offered an auditory journey in the mixed music world of traditional Bangladeshi music and Western contemporary composition. On this project, TM+ soprano and three instrumentalists collaborated with Farida Parveen – icon of traditional Bangladeshi songs – and her musicians. For this program, the French composer Laurent Cuniot was inspired by the text of the mystical Bangladeshi philosopher Lalon Shah and the contemporary poetry of Muhammad Manzur to infuse lyricism in his music.
TM+ presented this project to the Bangladeshi public three times in March: on the 8th in Dhaka, the 9th in Cox’s Bazar and the 12th in Chittagong. This tour attracted the attention of the Bangladeshi press: the two English-speaking media, The Independent and New Age, praised the project as “a rendez-vous between two continents”. The tour was also covered by other Bengali media: Daily Azadi, Daily Purkobone, Daily Shuprobhat and Daily Prothom Alo.
TM+ goes on tour for two festivals dedicated to creation
Following the tour in Bangladesh, Ensemble TM+ continues to forge a link between French and international music by participating in two festivals dedicated to artistic creation.
From April 24 to 26, TM+ will participate in the Mixtur Festival in Barcelona and will perform two pieces of its repertoire: La Barque mystique by Tristan Murail and Traces, et strettes, en strates… en strophes by Jean-Marc Singier.
In May, from the 1st to the 7th, TM+ will be at the Festival Hear Now! in Los Angeles (USA). The ensemble will collaborate with the LA-based composer Hugh Levick and the ensemble Brightwork newmusic. The collaboration will take place in two steps. First in Los Angeles, they will work together on a new creation during the festival and will meet students from Californian Universities UCLA and CSU/LA. Then the LA composers and the French ensemble will present their creation in Nanterre (France).
