USA | Polo & Pan, a growing success overseas
Since their debut in 2012, the electro duo Polo & Pan keeps on pleasing the world with their music. This success led them to perform at Coachella on Friday, April 12, and the French duo will once again make festival-goers dance next weekend.
From Parisian clubs to Coachella
Polocorp (Paul Armand-Delille) and Peter Pan (Alexandre Grynszpan) – both resident DJ – would often meet each other behind the desks at the famous Parisian club Le Baron. Both of them are strong believers in building musical bridges between genres and achieving good edits. It’s this shared passion that brought them together and pushed them to set up Polo & Pan. The EP Rivolta (Hamburger Records), their first collaboration as a duet, came out in 2013. Rivolta immediately enjoyed real success among the public in Paris and all of the clubs wanted Polo & Pan to perform. Following this first success, the independent label and publishing house Ekler’o’Shock teamed up with Hamburger Records. The band’s following discography has been coproduced by the two labels. Since the release of their first album Caravelle, their music is now distributed by Caroline International / Universal Music Group.
So far, the French duo has achieved more than 92 million streams, 55% of which was generated out of France. The single « Nanã », synchronized in an Apple commercial for iPhone X, has cumulated more than 15 millions streams abroad. Their debut album Caravelle has passed more than 50 000 sales outside France.
The recording success led them to perform live in different countries. First represented by promoter Super!, they have now signed with AEG Presents France. In 2018, Polo & Pan went on tour in the US for 4 concerts in Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. They got noticed by the famous magazine The New Yorker, who describes their music as “enchanting” (The enchanting electro-pop of Polo & Pan) and concludes that the two French DJs made the New York audience dream.
This year, Polo & Pan is in the line-up of the Coachella Festival, along with 10 other made-in-France acts. Billboard put them in the list of 15 Must-See Dance Acts At Coachella 2019 with FKJ and Gesaffelstein. The duo was also recommended by Ones to watch as one of the 10 acts to catch.
Polo & Pan’s first performance took place on Friday night on the 12th of April. They gave a set combining machines and instruments, which has drawn the attention of Los Angeles Times in its article « What Coachella taught us about the future of dance music »:
« Several other acts tried similar live-band setups, from Polo & Pan’s humid electro-cumbia to Gorgon City’s diva-house orchestrations and Parcels’ trim, Daft Punk-produced disco-rock. »
– August Brown, Los Angeles Times
Polo & Pan will perform once again at Coachella on Friday, the 19th of April at 8pm. Their set will be broadcasted on livestream on the festival channel.
