World | Christine and the Queens comes back as “Chris”
Christine and The Queens‘ sophomore album is finally here, media around the world may have a crush on Chris.
Following the global success of her 2016 debut album which marked the arrival of a new pop icon, Christine and The Queens is back, with Chris – her second album released on September 21 via Because Music.
It is her uncompromising, 360-degree approach to her work that makes Christine & the Queens quite unique – everything must be faithful to the concept and the character, as illustrated in the three videos: “Girlfriend”, “Doesn’t Matter” and “5 Dollars” – released earlier in the year.
The release of the album is the climax of a long teasing campaign that, aside from the music videos, included a double interview with collaborator and director Colin Solal Cardo for Youtube Music, a short documentary with Apple Music and an impressive press coverage, among other things.
Few hours after the official release, Chris can already boast excellent reviews from The Independent, The Guardian and The Telegraph as she obtained 5 from the three of them. Tabloids Daily Mirror and Daily Star both rated the album with a 4 stars score. Chris obtains a 9/10 from Clash and The Economist makes it album of the week. In Germany, the artist is introduced as a “Femme Totale” on the cover of Zeit Magazin. On the other side of the Atlantic, Vulture, Billboard and Pitchfork all seem to have nothing but praise for the new project. Lastly, Hypebeast, i-D and Dork all ran news on the release. Encouraging signs that let us hope for impressive results on the global scale.
