UK | Les Siècles Orchestra running for Gramophone Awards
Since 1977 Gramophone Classical Music Awards are one of the most awaited and prestigious prize. This year, the award ceremony will take place on the 13th of September.
2018 sees the introduction of a brand new award, one which will be voted by Gramophone’s readers: Orchestra of the Year. French orchestra Les Siècles – conducted by François-Xavier Roth – is among the 8 orchestras shortlisted.
The nominee is… Les Siècles
François-Xavier Roth was trained by William Christie (Les Arts Florissants). He founded Les Siècles in 2003 selecting only outstanding young players. The aim of this project is to offer a new approach – not only to repertoire but also to the nature of the concert form.
By shortlisting Les Siècles, Gramophone acknowledges the French orchestra’s innovative endeavour and success. A success expanding outside the European borders as the orchestra comes back from its Asian tour – playing 6 dates in China and Japan.
