World | YouTube Music Launch
YouTube’s subscription-based streaming service will be launched in 5 countries on the 22nd of May.
YouTube Music, previously known under the “YouTube Remix” codename, is both an app and a desktop player. There will be a free version and a pay-version for $9.99 a month, branded as YouTube Music Premium. Google Play subscribers will be able to transfer from one service to another easily.
The platform will be launched next Tuesday in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea. Subsequently it will reach European markets : Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Elias Roman, Product Manager, described the service as a content centralizing streaming service. Official tracks, albums, artist radios, but also remixes, lives, covers and video clips (YouTube’s “core business”) will all be gathered in one place. Added to this is YouTube’s very own recommandation algorithms expertise and playlists, which will adapt constantly to the user’s environment.
