European Jazz Meeting

At the European Jazz Meeting on Friday, April 20th, several formations from all over Europe are given the chance to present their music. The audience can expect an exciting selection of what European jazz currently has to offer. One of these bands is from France: It’s the trio Hermia/Darrifourcq/Ceccaldi

Friday, 20 April | Hall 7.1 | 20:50 – 21:20

In Hermia / Darrifourcq / Ceccaldi, saxophone player & flutist, “Confirmed Artist” 2017 by Sabam Jazz Awards, Manuel Hermia collaborates with two of the most oustanding musicians of the french jazz scene : drummer Sylvain Darrifourcq and cellist Valentin Ceccaldi. The trio has been a highlight of the recent Belgium Jazz Meeting.
From experimental jazz to classical, Valentin Ceccaldi could be presented as the new revelation of cello. We can feel his strong complicity with the incredibly precise drummer Sylvain Darrifourcq, and together they develop an unpredictable and inventive music, weaving the ideal groundwork for the overlapping sax of Manuel Hermia who furrows the roads of world music while carrying strongly alive the primal scream of a furiously libertarian jazz.

Line-Up: Manuel Hermia (saxophone), Sylvain Darrifourcq (drums), Valentin Ceccaldi (cello)

nOx.3 & Linda Oláh

Saturday, 21 April | Institut Français Bremen | 19:00 – 21:00

A vibrant ensemble nOx.3 radiates energy and the undying desire of experimentation. By combining different textures and techniques these equilibristic musicians create a playful and generous music. In 2017 the new project “Inget Nytt” is taking form together with the Swedish singer Linda Oláh. Together they create a music which prioritizes the mix of several contemporary musical practices. An assemblage of complex structures and aerial melodies all brought together in a layered unity where the loop is queen.

The first musical exchanges between the trio and Linda were made during a tour in October 2016. The very first notes played together all took place in front of a live audience in total improvisation. Sprung out of this first encounter are two traks; „Mid Descension” and „Inget nytt”, recorded in December 2016.

Line-Up: Linda Oláh (voice and fx), Rémi Fox (saxophone and fx), Matthieu Naulleau (piano), Nicolas Fox (drums and fx), Valérian Langlais (sound)
